Caroline and Alex’s charity fundraising triumph at the Brighton Marathon

Congratulations from all the team at Perrys to Caroline Judge from the Orpington office and Alex Skinner from the London office for their fantastic fundraising efforts in the Brighton Marathon on 15 April 2019.

We wrote about their preparations in one of our blogs back in March, and we’re delighted that their efforts and training paid off, with Caroline achieving a time of 4:40:20 hours and Alex finishing on exactly four hours!

Caroline was running for Versus Arthritis, a charity which helped to support her son, Samuel, who suddenly became ill in 2005 and spent several months suffering from high temperatures, weight loss and lethargy, before Systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis was confirmed. After years of trying different medications, and a failed stem cell transplant, Samuel, now 15, was successfully prescribed a pioneering new drug; he attends Great Ormond Street Hospital every seven weeks to receive his treatment intravenously, and it’s given him his life back.

Caroline raised £1,000, which was four times her original target. She said:

“What an amazing experience! I have to keep pinching myself – if you’d told me a year ago I was going to run a marathon I don’t think I’d have believed you. I loved every moment, and wouldn’t hesitate to do it again! Thank you to everyone who has supported me and helped me to raise funds for Versus Arthritis.”

After being inspired by Caroline’s passion for running, Alex was encouraged to take part as well. He has raised over £1,700 for the dementia charity Alzheimer’s Society.

He said:

“What an experience, and the noise of the crowd at times was incredible! It was the hardest thing I have done physically – the last few miles took sheer determination to get through. I’m thrilled to bits with my finishing time and I still can’t believe I’ve done it.”
