Family Matters: We announce our chosen charity for 2017

As a long-standing company that has served Kent and London for more than 30 years we are committed to giving back to the communities we serve.

We recently launched our second Exceptional Awards [link to http://perrysaccountants.co.uk/news/awards-return], which aim to honour all those unsung heroes who help make Kent a great place to work and live.

And another way we contribute to the community is via our year-long fundraising efforts. Each year the Perrys staff pick a homegrown charity to benefit from our cash-generating activities and for 2017, we are delighted to announce Family Matters as our chosen group.

Who are Family Matters?

Based in Gravesend, and with offices across Kent and South East London, Family Matters provides counselling and support services for child and adult victims of sexual abuse and rape.

Established in 1990 the award-winning charity works across 14 borough in Kent, South East London, Hertfordshire and Shropshire. It is the largest provider of childhood sexual abuse and rape therapy in the country, helping more than 4,000 people every year.

The award-winning service is supported by qualified professionals who help victims towards resolution and healing. The charity’s expertise is wide-ranging and can support people suffering depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, bereavement and self-esteem issues.

It also provides help with child protection issues, anger management, work-related difficulties and – where appropriate – related drug and alcohol problems. Family Matters also provides services to help victims through the criminal justice system, from reporting to police through to a court trial.

How Perrys is helping

As a charity Family Matters relies on statutory grants, charitable foundations and fundraising to help it continue its important work. While grants are available, a lot of this money is ring-fenced for a particular activity, so regular donations and fundraising pledges are vital to the charity’s growth and future.

It costs the charity £50 to provide a one-to-one play therapy session for a child who has been abused and £700 for a course of 12 counselling appointments for an individual victim.

As a charity that helps thousands of people every year its costs can quickly mount up.

The Perrys team is now on a mission to raise as much as possible for Family Matters through a series of fundraisers and activities. One of our main events will be our annual charity golf day being held at Chart Hills Golf Club in Biddenden on Friday, 2 June.

Our golf day is now in its sixth year and promises to be a fun, sporting event – with every penny raised going to Family Matters.

Stewart, our CEO, said: “Last year we supported the Kent Cancer Trust and raised an incredible £13,690. We were delighted with this amount but hope we can beat this figure in 2017.

“Family Matters provides a hugely important service to help children and adults going through difficult times. We hope all our supporters will dig deep once again to help us raise funds for this invaluable homegrown charity.”
