Companies House WebFiling Security Issue: What You Need to Know

You may recently have received an email from Companies House regarding a security issue affecting their WebFiling service. This is detailed in their update here. This has understandably raised questions for many company directors. We have put together a clear summary of what happened and how here at Perrys, we are helping clients navigate the situation.

What has been affected?

Companies House has confirmed that a technical issue may have allowed a logged‑in WebFiling user to view certain information that is not normally publicly available on the register. This could have included details such as:

  • Date of birth
  • Residential address
  • The company’s registered email address
  • In some cases, it may also have been possible to file updates to company information without the appropriate authority.

Companies House has stated that no identity verification data such as passport information was accessed. No previously filed documents could have been changed or tampered with.

What to do next?

Their guidance is: log in to your WebFiling account. Review your company’s records and filing history to ensure nothing appears unusual or unauthorised. At this stage, there is no requirement to change your login details or passwords.

What does this mean for Perrys clients?

So, for companies already using Perrys for company secretarial services, there is nothing further you need to do. We will be logging into WebFiling on your behalf to check that all details remain correct. As part of this process, you may receive automated notifications showing that the authorised filer has changed. You may also see the email corse@perry-company.co.uk listed. This is simply us carrying out the necessary checks.
