How Perrys helps
At Perrys we understand all of our clients’ needs are different and take pride in the fact we are able to meet them.
Our personal service is the foundation on which we have built excellent, and long-standing, relationships with our customers – some of whom we consider friends rather than clients. And we are always pleased to receive their feedback, as it may flag up areas where we can further improve our services, or confirm that we are meeting their needs and doing the best job possible.
We recently spoke to one of our customers, Richard Simm, about our working partnership and how it has benefited him. Here he gives us a client’s perspective of Perry’s services.
Meet Richard
Richard Simm runs a string of thriving venues in Tunbridge Wells, Kent; The Forum, which has hosted the likes of Adele, Oasis and Mumford & Sons, and pubs The Sussex Arms, The Ragged Trousers and The George.
He started with The Ragged Trousers, that sits in a prominent position on the town’s historic Pantiles, which he took on ten years ago with business partner Jason Dormon, who had been running The Forum since 1993.
Richard explained: “Five of us who had originally met at the club decided we wanted to take over a nearby empty property in the hope of running a bar that would work alongside and complement the existing music venue.
“I was just out of university and freelancing as a journalist so it made sense to take something on so I could earn some extra income – I saw it as a hobby initially. However, the pub proved to be really successful from day one, and soon after I took it on I gave up journalism and became a full-time publican.
“Ten years later we’ve gone from five partners to just the two of us, but we’ve successfully expanded the business to the four different sites.”
The Perrys connection
Richard has been working with us for four years after a local businesswoman and friend of his recommended Simon Hayden – partner at our Tunbridge Wells branch.
Simon was the third accountant Richard had worked with and he says they get on “very well”.
“We had struggled with two previous accountants so Simon was a breath of fresh air. He is really understanding of our aims and how we operate.
“Our set up is eccentric – the Forum for example, as one of a handful of independent UK music venues, is run for love, not money, and makes a loss year on year.
“His advice was central to our changing the company from a Ltd, to a CIC or – social enterprise – late last year. We’d have no hesitation recommending him to others.”
